My Week According to Instagram/100th Post!

Wow!  Can you believe that this is my 100th post?!  Soon enough it will be the blog's one year anniversary.

Monday I volunteered at the library for a few hours.  It was nice to hang out with the lovely ladies there and of course where all the books live!  If I could, I would probably live in the library, that's how much I love books and their stories.  That's also probably why I turned my spare bedroom into a library.  Who needs a spare bedroom anyway?  I spent my time there putting away the DVDs (the actual discs are kept behind the counter) and stocking them plus the books/magazines throughout the library.  It doesn't sound like it would take one long, but after the holiday weekend there was a lot to put away.  Doing this totally fed into my slightly OCD organization skills.

Thursday night I went to the library's crochet club.  You can also knit there, but they like a good alliteration like I do.  The librarian taught me a few basic crochet steps as I've never done it before.  It was really fun and something I wanted to learn for quite awhile.  I'd like to learn to knit also, but they suggested crochet first as it was a little simpler.  I can't wait to get it down so I can start making all sorts of things.  Right now I'm working on a scarf, but that seems a bit silly during springtime.

Today is the usual church and then mum's.  We will probably take the dogs for a walk since it's going to be lovely out again.  Then MAD MEN!  I'm so excited for the return tonight.  Especially since (thank to Watchathon Week) I'm for once caught up for the new season.

Did you do anything special to celebrate the warm weather?  Have a glorious day!  And thanks to those who have been reading and enjoying!

My Week According to Instagram

Happy Easter one and all!  I hope you are having a wonderful time celebrating this very special day.  I will be attending church, as usual, with my mum.  Afterwards my brother, his wife, and son will come over for Easter dinner at my mum's house.  I'm glad we are able to spend time together.

Hopefully by tonight, I can continue to remain spoiler-free in regards to The Walking Dead after last week's fiasco.  There's nothing worse than spoilers.

In more cheerful news, Bomb Girls and Doctor Who is back!!!  Plus Mad Men in one week!  Hopefully these shows will fill the hole that The Walking Dead will leave.  But sadness aside, can we just take a moment and talk about how amazing the return of Bomb Girls and Doctor Who was?  I almost forgot how much I enjoyed those programs until they came back on.  Oh Doctor...

31-32. He's back!!!

It's slowly starting to warm up again.  This weekend's weather has been nice, in the 50s, though they are calling for rain this afternoon.  I know I've said this before, but I can't wait for the warmth to come and stay.  Friday I got to wear my pretty blue 1960s frock.  I had to go in that direction after watching a season and a half of Mad Men.  But I'm ready and rearing to go for next week's premiere.

Yesterday Mum and I helped out at our church's Easter egg hunt.  My nephew came along and then we took him to another egg hunt.  The lucky lad!  I wish they had egg hunts for adults.  I miss the rush and thrill of trying to grab those eggs.  Plus some free candy is always nice.  Though they did hand out chocolate bunnies to both adults and children at the second egg hunt.  Yum.

What are your Easter plans?  I hope you have a happy and joyous day no matter what it is!  Happy Easter!

Bond Girl Blues

I was inspired to create this outfit after watching Skyfall with my dad and brother.  It got me in a very Bond sort of mood.  It made me remember that I own the Algerian Love Knot necklace that Vesper Lynd (played by Eva Green) wore in Casino Royale.

I wasn't originally even going to take photos today but when I stepped outside to run a few errands it was too beautiful to resist.  I quickly got changed out of my lazy clothes and threw on some that would work well with the Bond Girl necklace.  I know this isn't exactly skimpy enough to be a proper Bond Girl.  But this is my take on a throwback glamorous, classy one.

How stirring was last night's episode of The Walking Dead?!  The end nearly broke my heart...even though I knew who was going to die thanks to some jerk posting photos on Instagram several days before the episode even aired.  I've already ranted some, but I'm going to rant a bit more.  I don't care if you post photos after the episode has already aired, that's fair game then if someone hasn't seen it.  But to post a photo of a character death in the middle of the week is just mean.  Call me River Song, but I don't want spoilers.

I don't know if anyone else has Comcast for their cable, but I am super excited for this week.  It's Watchathon Week, which means there are all sorts of shows that have multiple seasons On Demand for free to watch.  Some of them are on regular channels like Doctor Who and Mad Men.  But I'm so glad Mad Men season 5 is up so I can hopefully finish it and be ready for season 6 when it starts next month.  I'm tired of being so behind on it.

Also exciting is that they have shows that are on paid channels like True Blood and Spartacus.  I'm all caught up on True Blood but it's still nice to have to option of watching it on my telly rather than on my iPad like I usually do since I don't have HBO.  I will be trying to watch some of Starz's Spartacus because Liam McIntyre is one fine looking Australian.  Plus, you know, I've heard good things about it...

 Outfit Details:
vintage dress, bolero, shoes, belt {thrifted}
tights {target}
casino royale bond girl love knot necklace {eBay}
sunglasses {boutique in Maine}

It's snowing again here.  A far cry from the sunshine from when I took these photos a few weeks ago.  These are also the last photos taken with my mum's camera.  All the ones from now on will be with my new (to me) Nikon that I got as a birthday gift from my dad.

Is anyone else gearing up for the return of any shows or has gotten spoiled about something?

My Week According to Instagram

It's now officially Spring!  Now please do me a favour, and tell the weather that!  They're calling for snow tonight into tomorrow night and it's still being very windy and cold.  I'm definitely over wearing tights and wool coats.  I'd like to wear my stockings by choice.  I'd also like to wear all the dresses I bought in the colder months that I haven't been able to wear yet.

Wednesday I ran some errands.  I was on the hunt for an open bottom girdle that would hold up stockings but still have not been able to get my hands on one at any thrift stores.  It's very annoying.  Mum swears there are some that were my grandmother's up in the attic, but that doesn't do me any good since that is chaos.  I know there are some gorgeous new ones like on What Katie Did, but there's no way I could afford that lingerie, most certainly not right now.

I did find an amazing pink tulle hat from I'm guessing the 1950s-1960s that I'll probably wear Easter Sunday.  I also found a pair of vintage nylons from the 1970s and two pairs of vintage backseam stockings.  Throw in a neat straw oversized clutch and all of that was just $5!  Oh how I love thrift shops.  I also scored a beautiful 1960s blue dress with a sweet Peter Pan collar for just a few dollars.

Last night I went out to eat at Kauffman's Chicken or as my nephew calls it, the Chicken House.  I went with my dad, two of my brothers, my sister-in-law, and my nephew.  It was good to get out of the house and eat some good food with good company.  Although my stomach isn't used to eating such greasy food and it was a bit queasy afterwards.

1. Doctor Who, Gallifrey, Irish?  Awesome!
2. An Irish blessing with sweet illustrations.
3. St. Patrick's Day tradition!

24. Oh Norman, you look so good dressed like that.

25. Yesterday's outfit for dinner with the family.
26. Curls!  A great hair day.
27. Am beyond excited for Doctor Who to come back!

Today will be the usual church with Mum and then go back to her place for the day.  We usually eat an early meal and spend the rest of the day relaxing by playing boardgames or watching some telly.  I'll leave with enough time to get home and watch Once Upon a Time and of course The Walking Dead.

I'm so gutted thinking there's only one episode left after tonight.  You know they are going to leave the season off at some huge cliffhanger.  Plus apparently there was some article saying that 27 people are going to die before the season is out.  Not to be mean to the innocents, but I hope it's mostly Woodbury peoples.  Team Prison has already dwindled down so much and there's no one in that group that I wouldn't miss except maybe Carol.  Sorry Carol, but that's the truth.  I'm indifferent about Merle but he does make for some good conflict.  The top people that I most definitely do not want to die are Daryl (obviously!), Glenn, Maggie, and Rick.  But I'd definitely be upset about Michonne and I'm starting to really like badass Carl.  See?  Just no one from Team Prison should die.

Team Woodbury?  There aren't really any main characters from there that I'd miss.  I'd feel a bit bad for Andrea but she had her chances.  I am a bit concerned for her to be in the Governor's twisted torture chamber.  I'd also feel a bit bad for Milton.  I guess we shall see!

Do you have any weekend rituals that you follow?

Lá Fhéile Pádraig

I hope everyone had a safe and happy St. Patrick's Day!  I spent mine as I said I would.  Started the morning off with church, went to my mum's a couple hours to have lunch before she had to study, and then kicked back watching both Boondock Saints films.  Even though I'm not a big drinker (so much for the Irish stereotype, huh?) I did have a wee shot of Bailey's.

I was a little disappointed my Norman Reedus marathon didn't continue as planned with The Walking Dead, since he didn't appear once in last night's episode.  Oh well.  The warehouse scene was pretty intense.  I'm just nervous for the last two episodes because something big is sure to happen.

In a funny sort of way to further the Irishness into today, I watched The Town for the first time.  I didn't really even think about it being set in Irish Boston when I put it in, but it's rather fitting.  Then whilst editing the photos, I watched a Celtic Thunder DVD.  Why not?  One simply does not stop being Irish just because it's no longer the 17th of March.

I went for the very obvious green theme whilst dressing yesterday.  I know the shade of green the shoes are don't really match too well but I didn't care.  I tried to then tie the look together with black accessories.  I got to wear my grandmother's vintage shamrock brooch and I made a wee bouquet with a couple other brooches.

My hair didn't turn out as planned.  I had tried a new way of putting the hot rollers in.  But in the end, it turned out rather well I think.  I really liked the two rolls around my face.  I, of course, had to pin back my hair to show off my shamrock tattoo behind my ear.

Outfit Details:
vintage blouse, vintage brooches, vintage jacket, vintage gloves {maternal grandmother/paternal grandmother}
vintage skirt, vintage handbag, vintage hat, belt {thrifted}
shoes {payless}
claddagh ring, green bracelet {gifts}
shamrock charm bracelet {handmade}

They're calling for another cold day with snow and a wintery mix.  I'll definitely be spending it curled up on the couch with a blanket and Smudger whilst watching the telly.  I'm ready for spring to fully move in.  I froze my bum off taking these photos yesterday.  The warm weather definitely won't be rolling in this week at all though it seems.  Here's hoping for next week.

So, what did you do to celebrate St. Patrick's Day?
