My Week According to Instagram

This past week we had some really gorgeous (albeit hot) weather.  I wasn't quite prepared for it being that hot this soon.  A couple days it got into the 80s and that made for some very warm photo taking.  But it is so nice to have it be spring at last.

It was really pleasant to be able to take photos several days in a row this week.  I'm getting behind again on my outfit posts so I need to keep up on them.

This week I (finally) watched Sherlock.  I've been meaning to for quite some time and at last got the first series from the library.  It was love at first sight.  Oh Moffat...  Benedict Cumberbatch is the perfect Sherlock Holmes.  He portrays the witty, and sometimes socially inept, detective flawlessly.  And the always adorable Martin Freeman plays Dr. John Watson with such charm.

Yesterday was my nephew's birthday party.  He turned 6 on Friday.  It's hard to believe he's that old already!  I went over to my brother's house and had some good food and hung out with them and a lot of my sister-in-law's family.

Today has been the usual Sunday routine.  I go to church in the morning with Mum and then head back to her house.  We make dinner and dessert together and then play games.

My Week According to Instagram

Still suffering through my hardship here, but I do have a few things to be grateful for this week.  I'm thankful for my loving family and all of their support, a white Christmas, the wonderful thoughtful gifts I received, going to see the Hobbit, and being able to dress up and go out tonight.

My family definitely knows my tastes.  As you will see below, I received some amazing vintage items-and that's not even all of them!  There are still some I have yet to post.

I had some major geeking out this week with going to see The Hobbit.  They played trailers for Star Trek and Jack the Giant Slayer beforehand.  I am so excited for both of them.  Star Trek needs no words and Jack has the oh-so beautiful Nicholas Hoult in the starring role and the always delicious Ewan McGregor in it.  The only problem with showing them is that I want to see them immediately and not have to wait until their release date.  The Hobbit was incredible!  Martin Freeman was so precious as Bilbo and Richard Armitage was wonderful as Thorin.  I'd really like to see it once more before it leaves cinemas.

Child(ren) of the Corn

So after an up to date blog post yesterday, here we are back to summer clothing.  I absolutely love this dress.  It's got a twirly skirt, sweet little buttons, and a sailor-ish sort of back.  I also adore the watercolour print of the blue and white flowers.  My mum bought me the necklace at a Titanic Tea Party we went to back when the film first was out.  We got to dress up in clothing inspired by the 1910s and have tea and scones.  It was really lovely.  I saw the necklace, and of course had to have it.  I don't wear it often.  It usually stays in the dark green velvet pouch with the white star on the closure.  I must make it a habit to bring it out more often.

You will notice that these photos are not taken at my usual location.  When I went to the Conrad Weiser Homestead, they were having some sort of Frisbee tournament all over the grounds.  I didn't want to be there awkwardly taking photos.  It might be a different story if I had a proper tripod for the camera I use.  Since I don't I use a stool and then put the lid of my typewriter on top of the stool with the camera on top.  It's definitely an interesting sight to see me running back and forth to that contraption.

I drove around through the mountains nearby until I found a place that I could use as my backdrop.  The title of this blog post is inspired by the location (and obviously a pun on the film).  It turned out to be a really nice place to take photos, despite the grass and weeds getting into my shoes.  Thankfully since it was in the mountains, the road is less traveled, but there were still a few cars to slow down as they passed and give me funny looks.  I'm just glad the farmer didn't come at me with a shotgun or something.

Lastly, there's dear Tucker.  He looks quite depressed in that photo.  I took it the day after we had to put Harley down.  Tucker lost his best friend, and I lost my best furry brother.  It was a sad day, but I thought maybe doing something normal like taking outfit photos would help.

My Week According to Instagram

So Christmastide is almost upon us!  I'm trying to maintain a positive attitude though my life is still in somewhat of a shamble.  It's been hard to stay upbeat, but my roller-coaster of emotions is back on a peak, instead of a plummet like earlier today.

There's a forecast of a dusting of snow for tomorrow which I'm excited about.  I hope there's a slight accumulation since we haven't had a white Christmas in awhile.  It's always been raining.  Unfortunately, they are also calling for freezing rain in my parts.  But I hope it heads way for the snow.

As tradition dictates, I'll be spending the evening of Christmas Eve at my brother's house with his wife and my nephew.  It's always enjoyable to see him open and enjoy all of his gifts.  I'm making my famous Sloppy Joes and deviled eggs to take over, along with an assortment of homemade cookies.  After my brother's, I'll go back to my mum's where we will open one gift each and then watch a Christmas film.  And just in case you were wondering, yes I will be leaving milk and cookies out for Santa and carrots for the reindeer...
