Lovely Lace and Awards Shows

So I come back from hiding once, and then I'm missing again for weeks.  Oops!  I suppose it will take some time to get back into the swing of things.  Though, to be honest, none of my resolutions are going that well.  I do suppose that trying to do more with my hair has been happening.  I even wore hats to work four days out of last week.

This is definitely one of my favourite outfits I've worn yet.  The sheer blouse with the lace trim is just so timeless and elegant.  The buttons on the high-waisted skirt have an air of old Hollywood.  In this outfit I felt like a film siren from the 40s.

Awards season has begun!  I'm so excited to see everyone in their beautiful fashion.  Last weekend was the Golden Globe awards and there were some knockouts!  My best of the night is a tie between Cate Blanchett and Lupita Nyong'o.  They were just stunning.

Tonight is SAG Awards which makes me extra giddy since Benedict Cumberbatch will be there.  I believe this year I'm going to throw my own fun Oscars party and invite some people over wearing formal clothing.  Do you do anything for awards shows?

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year all!  I hope you had a lovely and safe evening.  I spent it in my pyjamas re-watching Sherlock so it was fresh for series three.  I'm sure many of you thought I fell off the face of the Earth.  According to the blog, I did.  I needed to take a break but it's one of my resolutions to get back into the swing of things.  And if you didn't take notice, these photos are from the summer.  I've got a bit of backlog and it gets dark too early nowadays to take any shots before or after work.

Speaking of resolutions, here's what I have in mind.  But since I'm not that great at keeping them each year, I'm going to think of them more so as goals to aspire toward.

-Get back into blogging and do more photo shoots.  I want to continue my vintage shoots as well as getting into cosplay (though most of them will require finding a local, reliable photographer).

-Try styling my hair in other vintage styles besides just my usual curls.  Since I've started working full time again in the summer, I haven't been doing my usual hot rollers in the morning as it takes too much extra time.  I've now taken to doing pin curls but I usually just finger comb them and leave them be.  I'd like to try incorporating victory rolls and updos into my repertoire.

-Find some people to befriend that share the passion for vintage that will attend events and dress up with me.  (Same with cosplay.)  I see so many other bloggers who have vintage girlfriends and it makes me feel a wee bit sad and lonely that I don't have anyone to share that with.  I've gone to reenactments by myself, which isn't horrible, but it would be so much more fun to go with someone.  I missed out on a lovely sounding New Year's Eve that consisted of a multi-course dinner, champagne toast, and swing band.  I was meant to go with someone who just never bothered to tell me they changed their mind and instead just didn't respond to me.  So I definitely want to try to make some friends who I can go to events like these with.

-Eat healthier.  Yes, this is the result of the vain goal of wanting to lose weight.  But it will also be good for my health in the long haul if I can eat more balanced meals.  I never bother to cook anything proper after work because I'm too tired and lazy.  So I just end up eating something really simple to prepare.  I'm not going to get in a Julia Child mindset or anything, but I would like to start making simple, proper meals.

So there you have it, my goals for 2014.  I'll catch you up on what has been going on in my life in a future post.  What have you been up to?  Any goals for 2014?

My Past (Two) Week(s) According to Instagram

So I think next week I shall be posting these Instagram posts on a Monday.  It is just easier for me and I am more likely to get them out on time as opposed to every other week like I've been doing lately.

Last weekend was a pretty good time.  A group of friends and I went to the Renaissance Faire for their pyrate weekend.  I was thusly bitten by the Faire bug.  I've always loved it there ever since my first trip in school.

1. Sally Hansen gel manicure is my new friend.
2. So is apparently foam rollers, even with the crick in my neck.
3. I can't get enough of these shoes.
4. A 1960s neon frock.

5. Keira Knightley was Style Crush followed by Michael Fassbender.
6. I hate when the rubber comes off my heels.
7. Can't get enough Mumford and Sons.
8. More vintage neon.

9-10. It pays to have an inside connection to Jubilee.
11. One simply does not come across Darth Maul's lightsaber and a mask and not put it on.
12. Pyrate Weekend at the Ren Faire last Sunday.

13-14. Some of my fellow pyrate mates.
15. And a handsome knight.
16. Love this vintage blue floral frock.

17. First time wearing this navy blue hat.
18-19. Finally did a proper outfit shoot again.
20. Black and white with a pop of purple.

21. Close up of the pretty hat.
22. One does not simply wait patiently for their corsets to arrive in the post.
23. In the mood for Robin Hood and Allan A Dale.
24. Sweet plaid skirt.

25. Buttons galore.
26. Finally a new outfit post on the blog.
27. Hand stitched pouch I made for the Ren Faire.

I shall be going again tomorrow with a girlfriend that I went to beauty school with.  I know we are going to have such a grand time flirting and getting into trouble (only the good kind).  I will most likely be attending once a weekend until the season closes in a couple of months.

I shall bid you goodnight for the time being.  It's some Game of Thrones for me and then bed.

Pink Dream

This I believe is one of my favourite photoshoots I've done.  I just love the complimentary colours of the dress with the cherry blossoms in the background.

This was the first time I got to wear this vintage dress.  I bought it back in October when I went thrifting with my cousins from Maine when they came to town.  It looks just so lovely with the tree in the background.  I adore flowering trees, especially cherry blossoms.

I remember the day I wore this dress.  It was a Thursday because I went to the library in the evening to help out with the Jane Austen event.  They needed an extra body to help them practice the Austen period dances.  It was jolly good fun learning them and I hope to be able to use that knowledge one day since I couldn't actually attend the event.

I usually don't wear such long frocks, but I felt very elegant and ladylike in this.  I was still playing around with my flapper hair, so I tried on a headpiece to see how I liked it.

I am quite thankful it's Friday.  It's been a rather long week for me and there's a busy weekend ahead of me. It shall be fun nonetheless.  I need to make a leather satchel by Monday (a holiday here) for another visit to the Renaissance Faire.  I won't have time to make the whole outfit from a pattern that I purchased.  I will jsut put pieces together from what I already have.

Hope you all had a lovely week.  And here's to the weekend.  Tally-ho!

Style Crush: Michael Fassbender

Style Crush is back with another Brit!  Well, sort of.  If you count German and Irish.  Which I am.  Because it's my blog.  So there.  I present to you Michael Fassbender.  If you haven't seen his incredible talent in anything, you are sorely missing out.

Michael is capable of pulling off a more casual look like the tee shirt and dress pants above.  He also looks devastatingly charming in a three piece suit.  I sure am a sucker for a well dressed man.  And I love waistcoats.  Love.

I love the fact that Fassy can pull off being beardy as well as scruffy and clean shaven.  I love a bit of scruff on a man.  Plus who can resist ginger scruff?  Not this lass.

Can this man do no wrong?  Sexy bedhead?  Check.  Scruff?  Check.  Casual clothing but still looks handsome and put together?  Check.

Nnnyahsodfkdsjfsdkj.  That's all I can say about him in this tuxedo with hat.

Really?  Jeans at an event?  Oh well.  He still looks completely fantastic.  And I can't help admiring how well they fit him.
