Nicking a Nurse's Cape

So today is the day of this big storm hitting the east coast.  Thankfully I'm a little further south, and it's mostly New England that's getting hammered.  It hasn't even started snowing here yet...

This was an interesting photoshoot.  I was photo-bombed by a random dog in multiple photos, which I'm sharing one of below.  And then said dog's owner decided to watch me take photos of myself, which is beyond awkward.  It would be one thing if I had a tripod and a remote, but I don't.  I have the lid to my 1960s typewriter that sits on top of a stool with the camera on top of the lid.  Then I set the timer setting on the camera, run into the frame, and strike a pose.  It's not something I like to do with onlookers, but with no choice, I rocked it.  Thankfully I was left in some peace for the very end of the photos, and then booked it out of there.

Outfit Details:
vintage 1940s nurse's cape, vintage dress, vintage hat, shoes, belt, bracelet {thrifted}
vintage handbag, ring {gifted}
vintage earrings {maternal grandmother}

I am very excited I finally got a chance to wear the 1940s nurse's cape.  It's technically my mum's cape that she bought at last year's WWII Weekend, but I have since adopted it since she doesn't wear it and only bought it at the event because of being cold.  So now it's "mine"...at least for now.  It's a navy wool with red silk lining and so warm!  The only bad part is it's hair attraction.  Oh well.

Do you have any items of clothing that you have "adopted", "stolen", or "borrowed" from a friend or family member?

Style Crush: Ginnifer Goodwin

Welcome to my newest feature-Style Crush!  There are so many people out there that inspire, so I thought this would be a nice way to share them with you.  In this feature I will share the various women of now and then, and even fictional characters that I would love to steal the wardrobe of.  I will also post the many gorgeous men of present and past that know how to dress well.

To kick off the first entry in this new series, I present the always lovely and adorable Ginnifer Goodwin.  You may know her currently from her role as Mary-Margaret/Snow White on ABC's Once Upon a Time.  She has also been in He's Just Not That Into You, Something Borrowed, Big Love, and Walk the Line among many others.

Whether she is all dressed up at an event or low key and casual walking around town, Ginny looks amazing.  She is just utterly adorable.  She is one of those girls that you can tell is just the sweetest thing.  Ginnifer looks good whether her hair is long, in a bob, or her current pixie cut.  It's the likes of her, Anne Hathaway, and Michelle Williams, that almost, almost make me crazy enough to cut my own hair off.  Though I don't think I could ever be as bold as those beauties.

It's not many that can walk around in an over-sized sweater and still look super chic.  Plus it doesn't hurt that her on-screen and off-screen hunk of a boyfriend, Josh Dallas, has incredibly good taste.  Ginny goes back and forth between wearing bold pieces to classic/feminine effortlessly.  She is just one of those lucky girls that looks amazing no matter what she's got on.

What do you think of Ginnifer Goodwin?  Who are your style crushes?  What do you think of having this as a regular feature on the blog?

Girls Day Out

This day I went out for a much needed girls day.  I got to go out with my best friend who I hadn't seen in several months.  She lives 45 minutes away from me and we don't get to get together that often.  We went to an antique mall and then went to various little boutiques through town.  It was really fun and enjoyable.  Just what I needed.  I even came away with a pair of vintage navy gloves.

There were many amazing treasures at this one store called the Curiosity Shoppe.  They had all sorts of incredible items.  There was a gorgeous emerald green dress, beautiful shoes, hats, handbags, gloves...  I definitely must go back there when I have money to blow.

Outfit Details:
vintage skirt, vintage coat, vintage handbag, vintage cameo ring, cardigan, belt {thrifted}
shoes {nyc}
back seam cuban heel thigh high stockings {eBay}

I haven't had another opportunity since November to see her yet, but I hope we will be able to reunite again in the near future.  What sort of things do you like to do with your girl friends?  Do you go out or relax at home; both?

A Ginger in Ginger

This is what I wore on Thanksgiving, to give you all a point in my backlogged photo sharing.  Suffice to say, maybe it wasn't the most clever idea in the world to wear this specific pair of shoes to be cooking in the kitchen all day.  Oh well...Fashion over function.

This handbag I got as a little gift that day.  Random gifts are always lovely for their unexpectedness.  A co-worker of my mum's grandfather was emptying out his attic and had all these vintage pieces that belonged to his wife that he was getting rid of.  I got a whole bunch of stuff from them for Christmas including two 1920s handbags, several old hand irons, and a few other handbags.

 Outfit Details:
dress, cardigan, belt {thrifted}
vintage handbag, Tiffany & Co bracelet {gifted}
booties {wet seal}
stockings {target}
necklace {eBay}

I'm thinking about trying out a new weekly feature to break up the outfit posts during the week.  I'm going to try to initiate it Wednesday, or if not then, the following week.  So you will have to let me know what you think when we get there.  I hope your week is getting off to a nice start.

My Week According to Instagram

I hope your weekend has been going well thus far.  Yesterday I watched my nephew for pretty much the whole day so I spent the evening relaxing on the couch and catching up with my dear old friend, the DVR.  Other than that, my weekend has thankfully been fairly uneventful.  Because, lately for me, eventful things are always turning out to be bad.

1. Sharing my picks for best dressed ladies at the SAGs.
2. Mae got it right: yolo.
3. Sharing my picks for best dressed men at the SAGs.
4. First edition of Les Misérables that belonged to my grandmother.

5. The first page of Les Misérables.

7. Nick on the Graham Norton Show with Denzel Washington.
8. The first page of Warm Bodies.

 9. Photoshoot from this week.
10. I haven't cried during a movie this much since The Notebook.

15. Cute owl garden statues in my JoAnn circular.

 16. Posted this in honor of Clark Gable's birthday.
17. Gas masks at a zombie survival store near me.

I'm still uncertain if I will tune into the Super Bowl tonight.  I'm sure I will at least for a wee bit.  And I, like most people, will try to catch some of the commercials.  Any big plans for the game tonight?

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

So here we are at the beginning of February.  The first of the month always makes me think of this silly little thing I learned on Nickelodeon when I was younger.  If the first thing you say on the first of each month is "rabbit, rabbit", then you will have good luck for the rest of the month.  It hasn't worked for me ever, but every time a new month rolls around, it still springs to mind.

This dress is really special to me because my mum made it in school in the 1960s.  She made it in middle school, and the crazy thing is that it fits.  The sleeves are a little snug on my arms but it's great beyond that.

Outfit Details:
vintage 1960s dress {made by my mum}
vintage coat, cardigan, shoes, handbag, belt {thrifted}
knit stockings, gloves {target}
Cinderella necklace {walmart}

I adore this Cinderella necklace that I got on sale for $5.  It's the perfect combination of cuteness and whimsy.  Cinderella isn't my Disney princess, but it's still a sweet touch for a Disney girl who's all grown up.

This weekend is the Super Bowl.  I'm by no means a football fan but it is always fun to watch the half time show and of course the commercials.  The Puppy Bowl is an adorable alternative for the non-football freak.  What are your plans for the weekend?  Any parties or family affairs you're attending for the big game?
