Another week has passed and I only leave you with yet another Instagram post.  I pinky promise I'm going to try to get back into the swing of things and give you all more than just my weekly posts.  I kept in the tradition of spending Sundays with my mum.  We had a relaxing day playing card and board games and then eating a yummy dinner along with some very tasty homemade banana bread.

I am so excited for the Screen Actors Guild Awards!  Are you you watching?  I've only just started the Live from the Red Carpet E! special because I only got home shortly ago.  Which unfortunately means I won't get to the main event until tomorrow.  I love award season so much.  I am most thrilled to see the fashion-men and women's.  Though the women's fashion is definitely more fabulous.  There's only so much one can do with a tux or a suit.  Though from the photos I've seen on Instagram, the men certainly did fill them out well.  Special shoutout to Eddie Redmayne who looked chocolatey delicious in his brown velvet number.  I will most likely try to do a post tomorrow with all my favourite looks from the SAGs so be sure to keep a look out!

My (Past Two) Week(s) According to Instagram

Sorry sorry sorry!  I've been MIA for over two weeks.  Life caught up with me and I neglected you as a result.  But I'm back a day late and a dollar short.  I also apologize for the spacing issue.  I tried to remedy it, but it's still acting up.

This past weekend my brother and sister-in-law drove down from Boston for a visit.  It was so lovely to see them.  They're both doctors so they work crazy hours and don't have much time off so I'm lucky if I see them once a year.

Saturday night my dad's side of the family all went out to eat at Viva.  Sunday my brother and his wife (plus my adorable niece, Daisy, the golden retriever) came over for brunch.  My mum made an amazing spread and I chipped in with apple struesel muffins and another red velvet cake.  My sister-in-law really wanted to try it after I posted photos of it on Facebook.  It was really special because I used my grandmother's recipe and it was even in her hand writing.

9. Creamy tomato pasta dinner.
10. Geeked out over Nicholas Hoult being a clue on Jeopardy.
11. A pearl bracelet I made.  It's for sale per request.
12. Longing for warmer weather.

13. Smudger keeping my lap warm during a nap.
14. An inspirational quote from the late great Audrey Hepburn.
15. Titanic cross-stitch in progress.
16. A gorgeous 1930's fur trim coat a neighbor gave to me.

17. A lovely 1930's dress my neighbor gave me.
18. And an Asian inspired vintage dress I was also given.
19. A plethora of vintage knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, and fashion catalog magazines I got for free from my library.

34. I used vintage clips designed for the wave.

38. Craziness! Over 400 followers and counting!
39. What I wore out to dinner with my family.
40. Just finished reading this series (I know, a little late) and am in love.

41. I devoured this book in a day.  The film version won't come soon enough.
42. Warm Bodies looks so good. Nicholas Hoult is even beautiful as the undead.

My neighbor was sweet enough to drop off three vintage pieces that she couldn't sell at her thrift shop.  I was so thankful since I've been tight for money and haven't been able to buy anything for myself in a couple of months.  It's difficult to see everyone's swell thrift finds on Instagram, and not be able to revel in it yourself.  I know I am very blessed and have a wonderful closet full of items.  But that doesn't curb the urge at all.  It's not like a proper shop where the items will still be there weeks from now.  Once that piece is gone, it's out of your life forever.  That's part of the charm about thrifting though.  It's like a treasure hunt.  I know I will get to go shopping again in the future.  My drought won't last forever.  I'll just have to live vicariously through others and make due until that time comes.

I've been on a book reading bender lately.  I read four books in just a week or so.  I couldn't put down the Hunger Games series and Warm Bodies was read in a day.  There's something bittersweet about finishing a book you love so much.  You don't want to let it go yet at the same time you greedily want to consume the last few pages like it's the air I breathe.  Now I'm left wanting more.

Do you have any suggestions of books or a series I should read?

Coffee Shop Chic

This is what I wore to a (sort of) blind date at Starbucks a couple of months ago.  That's how far behind I am in posting.  It was some day in October.  What do I mean by sort of blind date?  Well I met someone I was talking to on Plenty of Fish.  I thought the date went well and he reiterated that, until I never heard from him.  Isn't that always how it ends?  Suffice to say, I'm taking a break from online dating for awhile.  It's all just so contrived and I really wish to meet someone in an organic way.  It hasn't happened in the past 26 years, but it must be in my future somewhere.  I'm just hoping it's my near future.

Outfit Details:
vintage skirt {maternal grandmother}
vintage jacket, vintage handbag, cardigan, belt {thrifted}
vintage thigh high back seam stockings {flea market}
shirt, ruby and diamond ring {used to be my mum's}
wedges {eBay}
earrings, bracelets {Mess Of A Dreamer Design}

 Have you had any dating disasters?  Have you tried online dating?  Has it worked out for you?

My Week According to Instagram

Since I'm pretty exhausted, I'm not going to write much and just let the pictures do the talking.  I spent a good portion of the weekend in my mum's attic sorting through stuff to keep or pitch.  Since I'm still not healed from my back injury, it was very painful.  But I did find some incredible gems in the process including a 1940s bathing suit that belonged to my grandmother along with a mink stole that belonged to my other grandmother.  I'll share the photos via Instagram later when I'm more energized.

1. Informing Instagram followers of this post.
2. A swell old print.
3. I spent my New Year's Eve with the Doctor.
4. A beautiful 1928 English ink well and stand.

Something Borrowed, Something Blue

Can you believe that this dress was hiding up in my mum's attic for years?  It was hers from when she was in secondary school.  So it's a bit short on me for my tastes, but by wearing it with black stockings and black shoes it grounds the look.  The jacket was also hers and it's reversible so it can be worn as I have with the blue on the outside or with the daisies out.

I really enjoyed wearing this look and I got many a compliment whist I was out and about.  I let everyone know that it was my mum's from when she was younger.  Apparently there was once an umbrella that matched the jacket, but it was lost on a school bus long ago.  I also especially love the handbag that I got at my local Humane Society Thrift shop.  I've wanted a tapestry bag for awhile and was thrilled when I came upon it.

Outfit Details:
vintage 1960s dress, vintage 1960s jacket {worn by my mum in secondary school}
vintage handbag, belt {thrifted}
knit stockings, shoes {target}

Do you have any pieces that were passed down from generations before you?  Do you wear them?

Out of the Secretarial Pool, Into the Woods

2013???  Already?  It's still so hard to believe.  I haven't had to write the date as of yet, but I'm sure I'm going to mess it up when I finally have to.  My new year is beginning pretty much the same as the year ended- with a whole lot of nothing.  So I don't really have much to report here.

I've given the post this title because I feel as if I look like some sort of secretary here.  Not that that's a bad thing of course.  I just feel like I stepped out of the office for a stroll through the park.  In hindsight, I think I would have paired this look with a shoe with a higher heel.  The vintage shoes here have just the tiniest wedge and I think with the knit stockings, it throws things off.  It's also bizarre how the camera photographed the print of the skirt.  It got all wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey.

Outfit Details:
vintage blouse, vintage skirt, vintage handbag, vintage shoes, belt {thrifted}
knit stockings {target}
vintage ring {paternal grandmother}
earrings {claire's}

Tonight I will be going to my mum's and making homemade pepperoni pizza.  I haven't had homemade pizza in the longest time so I'm quite excited.  When I was still in school and would go visit my dad every Friday we used to make the most delicious pizza and then watch Star Trek and the original Beverly Hills 90210.  There was this one horrible time when I picked a piece of pepperoni off a cooked pizza and burnt my chin.  It was very painful and I had a terrible red burn mark on my chin for a bit.  Suffice to say, I learned my lesson.

Have any of you had any kitchen horror stories?
