Out of the Secretarial Pool, Into the Woods

2013???  Already?  It's still so hard to believe.  I haven't had to write the date as of yet, but I'm sure I'm going to mess it up when I finally have to.  My new year is beginning pretty much the same as the year ended- with a whole lot of nothing.  So I don't really have much to report here.

I've given the post this title because I feel as if I look like some sort of secretary here.  Not that that's a bad thing of course.  I just feel like I stepped out of the office for a stroll through the park.  In hindsight, I think I would have paired this look with a shoe with a higher heel.  The vintage shoes here have just the tiniest wedge and I think with the knit stockings, it throws things off.  It's also bizarre how the camera photographed the print of the skirt.  It got all wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey.

Tonight I will be going to my mum's and making homemade pepperoni pizza.  I haven't had homemade pizza in the longest time so I'm quite excited.  When I was still in school and would go visit my dad every Friday we used to make the most delicious pizza and then watch Star Trek and the original Beverly Hills 90210.  There was this one horrible time when I picked a piece of pepperoni off a cooked pizza and burnt my chin.  It was very painful and I had a terrible red burn mark on my chin for a bit.  Suffice to say, I learned my lesson.

Have any of you had any kitchen horror stories?

Empire State of Mind

Here are the rest of the photos from my trip to New York.  These are all the photos of the beautiful architecture and such.  You know, the ones that don't include me in them.

Central Park is gorgeous, even if it is touristy.  My favourite parts of it were the gorgeous old bridges.  They were restoring some of them whilst we were there.  It was neat to see that process.  But I also enjoy seeing them with some character and age to them.

There are some beautiful sights in the city.  There is literally something for everyone.  My only regret this visit was not being able to get a chocolate cupcake from Magnolia Bakery.  If you have never been there, it was definitely worth standing in the queue for a tasty treat.

What is your must stop sight in the city?

Central Park and Such

I hope you all had a wonderful New Year's Eve!  It's so hard to believe this was October, the weather was so beautiful that day.  My mum and I went into the city for a day trip.  We spent the afternoon strolling through Central Park and enjoying the unseasonably warm day.  We packed food and had our lunch sitting on a bunch in front of a gorgeous little pond.  People were out walking their various sized dogs, jogging, playing with their kids.

The past several times I had gone to New York, it was in December and rather cold.  Now there's a certain magical aspect that comes with winter in New York.  All the Christmas decorations are out, there's the tree in Rockefeller Center, the ice skating, the amazing displays in shop windows, going to Magnolia Bakery and ordering a hot chocolate with a scrumptious cupcake...

It's also very lovely to be in the city when it's warm out, which I got to experience this past visit.  I visited Central Park once a few years ago with my brother after he graduated from NYU Med school.  He showed us Strawberry Fields and a few other areas in the park.  This time I really got to explore the park more.  I again went to Strawberry Fields but I also go to see the Boat House and the Alice in Wonderland statue.  We walked all along the park for hours just enjoying the sunshine and warmth.  It was a lovely day.

Have you ever been to Central Park or New York City?  What is your favourite thing to do there?

Auld Lang Syne

Another year is coming to it's close.  Now is the time to reflect on the months past and those we have ahead.  Like any other, I have had my fair share of ups and downs this year.  Though I am not ending the year in as much of a bang as I would like.

t-shirt {old navy}
shoes {new york city}
necklace {rehobeth beach, deleware}

It's truly quite difficult to believe that in a few hours it will be the year 2013.  Not that I have any grand plans are anything such as that.  I doubt I will even make it to midnight.  I'm exciting, right?  It comes from the lack of money plus not that many friends living in the area plus not being into drinking or anything like that.  I will most likely be ringing in the New Year by watching Return of the King and cuddling with my pup.  Don't get me wrong, for once I would love to dress up and do something special for the evening.  I suppose it's just not in the cards for me.  Perhaps one year I will have something to do to celebrate.

What are your plans for New Year's Eve?  Anything exciting?

My Week According to Instagram

Still suffering through my hardship here, but I do have a few things to be grateful for this week.  I'm thankful for my loving family and all of their support, a white Christmas, the wonderful thoughtful gifts I received, going to see the Hobbit, and being able to dress up and go out tonight.

My family definitely knows my tastes.  As you will see below, I received some amazing vintage items-and that's not even all of them!  There are still some I have yet to post.

I had some major geeking out this week with going to see The Hobbit.  They played trailers for Star Trek and Jack the Giant Slayer beforehand.  I am so excited for both of them.  Star Trek needs no words and Jack has the oh-so beautiful Nicholas Hoult in the starring role and the always delicious Ewan McGregor in it.  The only problem with showing them is that I want to see them immediately and not have to wait until their release date.  The Hobbit was incredible!  Martin Freeman was so precious as Bilbo and Richard Armitage was wonderful as Thorin.  I'd really like to see it once more before it leaves cinemas.
