Coming Into My Own

I feel so at home in vintage or vintage-inspired clothing.  I, like most people, went through various personal styles whilst growing up...several of them which I would like to forget, but are unfortunately immortalized in photographs and high school yearbooks.  But now that I'm in my mid-20s, I am really starting to come into my own and I feel as if I am finding my true self.

 

I've always been an old-fashioned girl when it came to life, so it's rather fitting that my wardrobe reflects my personality.  I'm often told that I look like various old Hollywood stars like Rita Hayworth and Katherine Hepburn.  To me, those are the greatest compliments.  Those women were glamorous and such great beauties.  I really enjoy when people recognize and compliment my love for vintage fashion.  They tell me it looks like I stepped out of time.  But I don't feel as if I am ever wearing a costume.  It all just feels very natural and normal for me.

I fell in love with this dress the moment I saw it.  I was even more excited when I saw that it was actually my size.  Most of the vintage dresses I find are too big for me- but I just belt them and then they usually look great.  This is the perfect summer dress.  It's very lightweight (though I had to wear a slip underneath) and the pastel colors are a lovely touch for a day out in the sun.  It just makes me want to frolic in a field.

When's The Next Train?

These photos were actually the first photos I took for the blog.  This was back towards the end of June when the concept of starting a blog was just a small inkling in the back of my mind.  But regardless, I started taking photos just so I would have a backlog if I decided to bring it to fruition.

This luggage was a major find for me.  I got them at my local Humane Society Thrift Shop.  I love vintage luggage and have it stacked in various places throughout my flat.  Some of the pieces are just decorative, as they aren't in the best condition.  The other ones I have were my grandmother's and other family members before her.  They have to much sentimental value for me to use them, so they are also decorative.  I'm so excited to have pieces I can actually use now.  They're so wonderful.

From this thrifting trip I also got the pink button down bow dress from an earlier post and a vintage hat.  I love thrifting because it's quite like treasure hunting-you never know what you're going to find.  I was told by the ladies that were working there that I looked as if I was getting ready to board a train in the 1940s.  I love it when people recognize my desire to want to look like I stepped out of that time period.

 

I also adore this outfit.  I just felt so effortless and feminine when I was wearing it.  Some clothing can just give you such a wonderful feeling when you put them on.  A certain pair of shoes can give you a wiggle or a certain dress makes you stand up straighter.

I took all three pieces of luggage with me on my holiday in Maine.  They were the perfect compliment to my vintage clothing.  The best part- no musty smell!  My Yorkie, Smudger, decided he needed to check out what I was packing to see if I had all I needed.  I love the sewn in ribbon for keeping your clothing all neat and together.  The two big pieces also had a canvas divider so I could put clothing on both sides and have it all remain folded.  I had a great trip and I can't wait to share my photos from it soon enough.

Summertime, And the Living Is Easy

Summer is a wonderful time.  It just gives you a renewing sort of feeling-like Spring.  Summer has the beauty of Spring, but without the unpredictable rainy weather.  Then cue the humidity...  I am one of those people who enjoy the beginnings of each season.  I get excited for the change of weather and the opportunity to wear different types of clothing.  Enter the downfall for each season then: rain, humidity, snow.  I like them at first but then I'm just eager for the next season to begin.

 

When my mum told me she had my grandmother's bathing suit from the 1940s up in her attic, I begged her to take me up.  We endured the sauna that was the attic, and we found the swimsuit!  I was absolutely excited.  It even appears the be handmade, with boning throughout the front, bloomers underneath, and all.  The elastic is shot, and I wouldn't dream of actually wearing it to swim in.  But it's still such a lovely piece to have in my collection.  It's even more special since it was my grandmother's and probably made by either her or her mother.

Right now it's currently hanging in my bedroom on a beautiful wooden hanger that has an attachment to hold the shorts.  Even though I can't wear it, I can still enjoying seeing it every day.  Do you have any items that have been handed down to you that you just adore?

My Week According to Instagram

I've only recently got into Instagram.  I've heard about it from various sources.  But only about a month ago did I finally succumb to downloading the app...I've been addicted ever since.  I absolutely love the ease of it, and all of the different filters are quite swell.  The one that I've mainly used is Earlybird.  I really like the faded vintage feel it gives to the photos.  So like many blogs are doing, I'm jumping on the bandwagon.  And here is my week via Instagram.

Playing Catch Up

Back a couple of months ago, when I knew I wanted to start this blog, I started taking photographs of my outfits.  It was a good idea because I only get to dress up on my days off.  When I'm working, I'm wearing scrubs--and no one wants to see photos of that.  The only problem is, now I have all of these photos that I'm dying to share straight away.  I am especially excited to share my photos from when I was on holiday in Maine last month.  The scenery is absolutely stunning.  But I'm going to behave, and post them in the order that I took them.

These photos were taken last month in my mum's garden.  It's a great location for me because of the beautiful landscaping she did.  It also helps the neighbor has equally lovely landscaping for photos when I'm standing near the fence.

I love this dress!  It's utterly feminine from it's blush pink color to the bows on the shoulders.  It even has a bit of a peplum going on at the hips and buttons all the way down the front.  When I was wearing this dress, it totally transformed me.  It made me feel ultra girly and the fit made me do a little wiggle when I walked.
