My Week According to Instagram

Another week passes us by.  I worked all week except for Thursday.  I was rather productive that day.  I finally got my hair trimmed after not doing so for the longest time, I started my Christmas shopping, went grocery shopping, and did some sewing with my mum.

I am working this weekend, so I usually don't do much when I work.  I have off tomorrow but it's going to be another busy day.  I like having off a weekday each week, but then again at the same time it's not very relaxing if you try to cram too much in one day.  I always long for my weekends off when I can have two days in a row.

1. Pumpkin spice latte on the way to a flea market.
2. Vintage nails and a Singer light bulb shield.
3-4. The lovely Vivien Leigh.

5. Stockings and garter belt.
6. Gorgeous blue Orchids.
7. Handmade Kindle case.
8. Battle wound from Smudger.

9. Lee Pace in Breaking Dawn Part Two.
10. Exploring Maine in July.
11. Hitchcock time.
12. Lovely fabric I need to buy.

13. Making an apron from this pretty fabric.
14. Saving the eggs from spoiling.
15-16. Stunning Waterfall furniture.  I desperately want the wardrobe on the right.

17. The third piece at the thrift shop.

My Week According to Instagram

I'm still getting over being sick.  It's going on two weeks now.  Most definitely no fun.  They did an x-ray on Friday to rule out pneumonia, so hopefully I'll know something at the beginning of the week.

Yesterday was a bit exhausting.  I overdid it by cutting Mum's hair and taking photos.  I don't feel too bad as long as I pace myself.  But anytime I exert a bit too much energy, I just am completely wiped out.  That's what makes working so difficult since I'm constantly on my feet, running around.

Today was fun.  I got an abrupt call from my mum asking me to go to a flea market with her, my step-dad, nephew, and sister-in-law.  I found some amazingly unbelievable finds.  I knew there would be produce and used items but I wasn't expecting to find the great vintage items I did.  I got 12 pairs of vintage back seam stockings, an old mixer from the 1950's or so (I need to research it), an old WWII devotional book for the soldiers, and a cameo ring.

Afterwards, we had luncheon at a cute diner.  Then we went to the Humane Society Thrift Shop because my nephew needed a tie-dye shirt for school for tomorrow.  He didn't have any luck, but I made out like a bandit!  I got a blue velvet vintage hat with lovely red lace lining, a detachable fur collar, a tapestry handbag, two tapestry pieces of luggage, a looking glass that says "I didn't want to go out but my hair looked too good to stay home", and a vintage bullet bra.

Warning: A lot of the following photos are Downton Abbey themed.  I'm currently reading The World of Downton Abbey by Jessica Fellowes.  If you're a fan of the show, I highly suggest giving it a look.  It's got such stunning photography from the series as well of old images of actual people from that time.  Not only does it give insight to how things are on the show, but it also gives details of how life was then.  It's really all so fascinating.

1. The adorable Sean Berdy from Switched at Birth.

39. Wow over 100 followers!  Thanks to everyone who enjoys the same things as I.
40. I love freshly curled hair!

After I got home from the flea market and thrifting, I really needed to rest.  I exerted too much energy for still recovering from the infection.  I wouldn't trade it for the world though.  It was so much craic to spend time with my family and I love thrifting!  I rested and perused the internet for a bit and then baked some cute pumpkin shaped cookies to take work tomorrow.  I'll show you in next Sunday's post.  How was your weekend?

Red Suede Shoes

Sorry I've been absent for a few days.  I had good intentions of updating all week but I've been feeling under the weather and it's getting worse.  I just feel so lethargic that I can't be bothered to do anything.  I have to make myself just get out of bed and get ready for work-no fun.  But I feel bad not posting anything, even though I'm not sure how many of you read this regularly.

The moment I saw these shoes, I fell in love.  They're just so unique looking.  They remind me of something from the Victorian era.  The only bad part...after frolicking taking photos, my feet were killing me.  Oh well, fashion over function and all that.

The whole outfit was thrifted!  The skirt I found at a thrift shop when I was on holiday in Maine.  The bracelet, earrings, and necklace were my paternal grandmother's.  The ring, of course, was my maternal great-grandmother's engagement ring from 1920.  I was over the moon when my Mum gave it to me last year.  It's so special to have a piece like that.

vintage earrings, vintage necklace, vintage bracelet {paternal grandmother's}
1920 engagement ring {maternal great-grandmother's}

Having the jewelry from my paternal grandmother means the world to me.  She passed away 21 years ago this month, when I was only 5.  I don't remember much about her so it's really special to have a piece of her with me.  Do you have any special family pieces that you adore?

Back in Pennsylvania

Well, it's back to Pennsylvania with the photos now.  I had a wonderful holiday in Maine, but like most holidays, it ended far too soon for my liking.  I got to see family, beautiful places, and thrifted in another state.  The thrifting was one of my favourite parts.  I ended up coming home with three gorgeous vintage hats and a vintage bed jacket.  Many other goodies come home with me as well.

I absolutely adore this dress.  It was one of the first vintage pieces I bought and it still holds fast as one of my favourites.  It's just such a cheerful frock to wear with all of it's bright colours.  I also just got the necklace in the post from eBay the morning I took these.  So, it was only right to wear it during the photoshoot.  It's funny how a single accessory can completely change the look of an outfit.

ring {gifted}

handbag {yard sale, Maine}

These were the first photos I took by myself with the timer on my camera.  I think I did pretty well considering.  It was awkward at first.  And I'm sure it would have been amusing for anyone who would have stumbled upon me...seeing a girl run around in heels and strike a pose.  I know I can't be the only one to have done this.

Travel Diary: Liberty, Maine

If you ever make it to Liberty, I highly recommend going to Liberty Tool.  Have you ever watched an episode of American Pickers?  It's sort of like that.  There is junk everywhere, and you could spend hours there and still not see all there is to see.

I found some great pieces when I was here last month.  An antique Singer sewing machine, antique Singer sewing accessories, an EverHot miniature oven of some sort, old Life magazines, and some old books.  Don't let the name fool you, there is definitely something for everyone there.  Of course, they do have lots of old tools and hardware there.

These photos were taken across the street at another junk shop.  I'm not sure of the name, or if it's affiliated with Liberty Tool.  There wasn't really too much in here that caught my eye.  This place was primarily tools.  But the outside was just magnificent!  All it needed was an old Chevrolet sitting by the gas pumps.

This was my favourite thing that I saw.  It was the most beautiful thing.  I really wish I had $300 dollars to spend on it.  Where I would have put it, I have no idea...but I would have found a place somewhere.

Are there any junk shops that you regulate whenever you are in a certain area?

When's The Next Train?

These photos were actually the first photos I took for the blog.  This was back towards the end of June when the concept of starting a blog was just a small inkling in the back of my mind.  But regardless, I started taking photos just so I would have a backlog if I decided to bring it to fruition.

This luggage was a major find for me.  I got them at my local Humane Society Thrift Shop.  I love vintage luggage and have it stacked in various places throughout my flat.  Some of the pieces are just decorative, as they aren't in the best condition.  The other ones I have were my grandmother's and other family members before her.  They have to much sentimental value for me to use them, so they are also decorative.  I'm so excited to have pieces I can actually use now.  They're so wonderful.

From this thrifting trip I also got the pink button down bow dress from an earlier post and a vintage hat.  I love thrifting because it's quite like treasure hunting-you never know what you're going to find.  I was told by the ladies that were working there that I looked as if I was getting ready to board a train in the 1940s.  I love it when people recognize my desire to want to look like I stepped out of that time period.

I also adore this outfit.  I just felt so effortless and feminine when I was wearing it.  Some clothing can just give you such a wonderful feeling when you put them on.  A certain pair of shoes can give you a wiggle or a certain dress makes you stand up straighter.

I took all three pieces of luggage with me on my holiday in Maine.  They were the perfect compliment to my vintage clothing.  The best part- no musty smell!  My Yorkie, Smudger, decided he needed to check out what I was packing to see if I had all I needed.  I love the sewn in ribbon for keeping your clothing all neat and together.  The two big pieces also had a canvas divider so I could put clothing on both sides and have it all remain folded.  I had a great trip and I can't wait to share my photos from it soon enough.
