Red and Yellow

Huzzah!  At last another outfit post...  I'm back (hopefully, just need to get into the routine again) and better than ever!  I was in a bit of a mood a few weeks back and that added to my not wanting to blog.  But now that mood has passed and I'm happier than I've been in awhile.

I spent most of this weekend with R, as I did last weekend.  He really is quite the upgrade from J.  Saturday he came with my family to my brother's house for a lovely cookout.  Then we spent the rest of the evening relaxing and watching Django Unchained.

Sunday R and I had an early morning as his band was leading worship at Camp Swatara's church.  It was my first time getting to hear him play an instrument and sing and it was quite nice.  He has a very good voice.  I can't wait for him to give me guitar lessons.

After church we had lunch at the camp and then headed to Conrad Weiser Homestead for a concert honouring veteran's and different important songs were played that spanned the years.  R was there to take pictures; he's quite the photographer.  I could only stay for a half hour or so before I had to leave for another thing I had planned for yesterday.

Outfit Details:
vintage dress, jewellery {grandmother}
vintage hat, shoes {gift}
gloves, handbag, belt {thrifted}
backseam stockings {eBay}

After I left the concert I met up with a lady that works at the library where I volunteer at.  She took me to Shupp's Grove for a bit of antiquing.  Unfortunately since we got there so late in the afternoon (combined with the horrid heat), a lot of the vendors were already packed away for the day.

I did manage to get two lovely white vintage summer dresses, a bunch of vintage 1940s-1950s patterns, and two True Story magazines from the 1920s.  So I made out quite well considering.  I can't wait to go back with Cathy again when we actually get there at a more proper time.  We talked about making a whole Saturday out of antiquing in that area since there's lots of different spots around the location.  It should be great fun.  I'm very lucky and blessed to have all these new blossoming relationships in my life...

I'll Never Let Go

This post is coming to you early on account that I'll be at World War II Weekend tomorrow and won't have time to post except via Instagram.  So if you don't follow me on there, be sure to add me.  My username is _vintage_vixen_

I'm now onto mid-April for my backlogged photos.  This was the outfit I wore on the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.  It's not exactly period specific, as I don't have anything really 1912-ish.  It's more so inspired by and a nod towards that era.

This outfit is centered around the Le Cœur de la Mer or, the Heart of the Ocean.  My mum got it for me as a gift back in 1997 when Titanic the film was all the rage.  We went to a Titanic themed tea party where we got to dress up, wear big hats, and drink tea.  It was really enjoyable.

Outfit Details:
vintage skirt, vintage shoes, vintage hat, vintage earrings, belt {thrifted}
Titanic necklace, vintage jacket {gifts}
backseam stockings {eBay}
camisole, jumper {boscov's}

I would love to go to another themed event like that.  Well, obviously apart from WWII Weekend.  That's the only local vintage event but I love getting all dolled up for a specific reason.  There should be more themed parties or events around here.

I'll never let go of my love for the beautifully tragic Titanic.  I ended up seeing it 11 times in cinemas when it first came out and then even saw it again when they re-released it in 3D.  It was the film that brought Leo into my life and the lives of thousands of other young girls.

My Week According to Instagram

This week has been a hot one for sure.  Thankfully my mum carried down my two window AC units and put them in for me.  Or else I would be completely wilted.

It's so hard to believe that in one week, even less than one week, WWII Weekend will finally be here.  In case you haven't noticed by the amount I've talked about this- I'm really excited!  My outfits are all planned out all the way down to the accessories and now all I need to do is play the waiting game until Friday.

1-2. Last Sunday's outfit.
3-4. Photoshoot after church.

5. First time shooting a rifle. 75 yards and a bulls-eye, not too bad...

7. My grandfather, Warren R. Beitler, WWII.
8. My great-uncle, Adrien 'Bud' Hilmer Knowlton, WWII.

9. My patriotic outfit for Memorial Day.
10. And the details of said outfit.
11. Fred K. Johnson, 1941.
12. Harry Bickford, 1917 or 1918.

13. Fire pit and s'mores, the perfect way to end Memorial Day.
14. Norman Perley Knowlton, WWI.
15. My great-grandmother, Winifred Coffin (nee Johnson) Knowlton.
16. Wednesday's outfit mixed florals.

17. Details of my outfit from Wednesday.
18. Ginger Rogers was this week's Style Crush.
19. Major hair envy over Rita Hayworth's luscious locks.
20. Vintage black one piece swimsuit.

21. Shared this outfit post via Instagram.
22. Thursday's outfit, apricot wiggle dress.
23. My attempt at re-creating Rita's hair.
24. UK Being Human v US Being Human, UK wins for sure.

25. Vintage nurse's uniform.
26. Vintage green and white one piece swim suit, bullet bra built in!
27. Boho-chic for Friday's outfit.
28. Shared this post on Instagram.

29. Had a dream of Jay Baruchel as a sailor. That's a good dream.
30. Happy Birthday, Marilyn! (1 June 1926)
31. Saturday's feathery outfit.
32. Rita hair turned out better the second time around.

33. The pretty roses in my garden.
34. Since I can't be at Comic Con right now, watching Fanboys will have to do.

Another reason I'm excited for next weekend, besides the obvious, is that my cousin Kathy and her husband Mark are coming down for a wee visit.  And when I say wee, I mean wee.  They are arriving Friday afternoon, going to WWII Saturday, and then heading back to Maine Sunday.  Talk about quite a ride for just a short period of time!  Either way, I'm happy to see her again.

Apparently my sleeping mind is as excited as my waking conscious for WWII Weekend, because Friday night I had a dream about Jay Baruchel in a sailor uniform.  He did play one briefly in Night at the Museum 2: Battle at the Smithsonian so that's where the image came from.  But why it sprung into my unconscious mind, I don't know.  It's certainly got me on a Jay kick though.  I had to watch Fanboys because I'm bummed about missing Comic Con in Philly (Norman Reedus is there!) and then I watched Tropic Thunder.  Jay is just so adorkable.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!

My Week According to Instagram

Another week has passed.  This week was a week for rekindling old friendships.  On Monday I met up with my friend Nikkoel who I hadn't seen since graduation in 2004.  We did a Great Gatsby photoshoot before we went and saw the film.  It was really a lot of fun teaming up with someone to take photos.

Wednesday night I got to see my friend Amanda who I know from beauty school and working at the same salon together.  We met up in Lebanon to see Star Trek Into Darkness.  The neat thing was that the cinema played the first Star Trek film beforehand to really get us in the mood for the new one.  I must just say that it was phenomenal and it was really nice seeing Benedict Cumberbatch in 3D and on that big of a screen.

 1. My finger waves turned out great just in time for Gatsby.
2. My mum and I when I was a wee lass.
3. Swooning over RDJ.
4. Last week's Instagram post.

 5-6. All dolled up for The Great Gatsby.
7. Nikkoel and I after seeing The Great Gatsby.
8. Woohoo!

9. Testing costumes for Star Trek Into Darkness.
10. Finally edited Gatsby photoshoot pictures.
11. Zoe Saldana was this week's Style Crush.
12. The final outfit for Star Trek.

13. Oh yes, that's a phaser.
14. The glorious Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Trek Into Darkness.
15. I wore a nightgown as a dress on Thursday.
16. The goodies I won in Nora's giveaway arrived!

17-18. Incredible deadstock vintage dresses my mum told me about.
19-20.Very springy in a lilac dress on Friday.

21-24. Some photos from the Gatsby shoot. The rest can be seen here.

25. Devoured (hehe) the first season of UK's Being Human. Can't wait to watch the rest.
26. Found this beautiful piece on Craig's List.
27. Welcome home, baby.

Yesterday I headed over to my mum's house to restore an old 1950s Formica table that she picked up for free on the side of the road.  I sanded the chipped paint off the legs and painted them a glossy black.  The chrome and top were in pretty good condition and just needed a bit of cleaning.  The table is going to serve as my new sewing station.

I also picked up a beautiful Waterfall wardrobe that I found on Craig's List.  I've wanted a matching one for my bedroom set for quite awhile.  After my current wardrobe's rod broke, I decided it was time to seriously into a replacement.  And voila!  A couple days after searching, I found a lovely one that nearly matches my current set perfectly.

Today was the car show which was a bit of an anti-climax.  The overcast clouds and on and off misting rain kept most of the really pretty vintage cars at home.  I was a bit disappointed because I really wanted to take outfit photos by them.  There was one nice Ford from 1940 that I got my photo with so that's good at least.

How was your weekend?

Interview on Eccentric Owl

This week I was featured and interviewed on the gorgeous Kristina's blog, Eccentric Owl.  It is truly quite the honour as her blog is the first one I ever started reading.  She's got such wonderful style and she is the sweetest girl.  We've become Internet buddies and I believe if it weren't for many many states between us, we'd hang out and thrift a lot.

So be sure to head over to her blog to read the interview and also check out her inspiring outfit posts!

Candy Coloured Stripes

The week is underway and it's not proving to be that good of one for me.  Sunday night I slept terribly (which could have had something to do with testing out foam rollers) and woke up with a horrible headache.  I've had a headache every day for the past couple months but same days are worse than others and yesterday was most certainly one.

On top of that, and the constant back pain, now I've got tooth pain.  My dad graciously paid for me to go to the dentist yesterday and it turns out my wisdom teeth need to come out and they're the source for my pain.  Unfortunately since I don't have insurance right now, I can't afford to get them pulled which is very expensive since they're impacted.

Today I had a doctor's appointment for my continued back pain plus a few other concerns.  Not much I can do for my back right now without exercise.  She suggested trying to do some at home stretches and heat to help with my back.  The good news was that she was able to write me a prescription to help with my teeth for now until I can get them pulled.

Since I was out I stopped at the mall to go to Sears.  I've had a gift card for there for well over a year.  I thought I might be able to find something there to cheer me up.  And I did!  I got a really cute pair of vintage inspired heels.  They were on sale for $24.99 but then rang up as $9.99!  Score!  It left me with a balance so I could still go back and get something else in the future.

Outfit Details:
vintage dress, vintage hat, handbag, belt {thrifted}
vintage jewellery {belonged to my grandma Charlotte}
wedges {eBay}

It's been and is going to continue to be a rather dreary week.  The weather has been bleak with on and off rain showers and they're calling for this all week.  Suffice to say, I've not been able to take outfit photos so I've been having a lazy time with my wardrobe.

Do you fall into laziness when they weather isn't nice?
