My Week According to Instagram

Another week has passed.  And I've actually been a good girl all week when it came to blogging.  Everything came out on time.  I told you, I just have to get back into the routine of things.  And getting a head start by at least having the photos ready certainly helps matters.

I've spent a good portion of my evenings this week with R.  We don't really do too much but lay about and watch films.  But I love his company regardless.  Wednesday we did go out drinking with some of his mates.  Other than that, we've spent our evenings in.

1. Last Saturday's outfit for a cookout at my brother's house.
2. Good hair day that didn't last long thanks to the humidity.
3. There's a ladybug pin on my hat!
4. 1850 dream house for sale about 10 minutes from where I live.

5. I want a man to throw me around on the dance floor like this.
6. Finally did my huge pile of hand washing.

12. My old timey camera mobile cover came in the post!

14. Shared this post via IG.
15. Made myself a tasty cocktail Friday night.

Today I'll drive my mum to church, as she has recently broken her leg.  Afterwards we will head back to her house for food and games.  She said she's planning on making chicken kabobs with cheesy potatoes for dinner and apple crisp for dessert.  She sure knows the way to my heart: chicken and potatoes.  It would only be fully complete with s'mores and mint chocolate chip ice cream.  Oh well, can't win them all.  I'll just have to win at Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock and Trivial Pursuit Genius Edition.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and an even better week ahead!

My Week According to Instagram

This week was rather busy for me.  It feels good to sit down and type this out.  Tuesday was the only day that I didn't have something to do.  I haven't been this busy in a while, it's weird.

Speaking of weird, the weather has been all out of whack.  It's turning around today and looking warmer for the rest of the week.  Unfortunately, with that, probably comes the humidity as well.  Humidity is not my friend.  My hair goes crazy and gets super fluffy and out of control.  I have yet to find the right hair products to defeat this nuisance.

3-4. At the car show in my town.

5-6. In black and white.

Pretty Pastel Pleats

There goes the nice weekend weather.  Today is rainy and dreary.  Hopefully these April showers will soon come to an end.  I did dress up in sort of a 1920s fashion for working at the library today but I forgot to take photos since I was pretty damp when I got home and just wanted to change into something dry.

I just saw an extended trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness and started geeking out.  I've only seen teaser trailers.  I cannot wait for this to come out!  Plus it will be my first Benedict Cumberbatch film I see in cinemas.  I will definitely be wearing one of the Starfleet shirts I got from a promotion for the last film.

I absolutely love this necklace that was my Grandma Charlotte's.  I'm not quite sure how old it is, but it does look a bit Art Deco to me.  It very well could have been her mum's since I know some of the pieces were.  I wish she was still around so I could ask her about the jewellery.  I'd love to know where they came from and which were her favourites.

I've got to start practicing my fingerwaves between now and when Gatsby comes out.  I learned them in beauty school and absolutely hated doing them.  I was so rubbish at it.  I wish I paid more attention.  I've attempted them on myself twice thus far, both times with fingerwave clips.  The first time turned out rather well.  Last night's attempt was terrible.  I used a different gel and when I combed them waves, they fell right out.  Very annoying.

So I suppose I will wash my hair again tonight and try once more.  If I could only remember what gel I used the first time.  Either way the result is never as beautiful as the old photographs of ladies from the 1920s that I look at.  If only I could do it that well.  Perhaps it will just take practice.  Or maybe I should look into alternative methods of styling them.

Outfit Details:
vintage dress, vintage hat, belt {thrifted}
vintage jewellery {Grandma Charlotte}
stockings {eBay}
shoes {Bakers, gift}

I will be spending the rest of this rainy day researching the 1920s for a themed party I want to throw.  So I will be looking up popular drinks, foods, games, and whatnot to use at the party.

My Week According to Instagram

Finally the weather is starting to come back to spring temperatures!  All week it's been a bit cooler so I didn't get to take any outfit photos.  Yesterday was really nice so I went to my usual spot and took some photos by the most beautiful cherry blossom tree.  It was the perfect backdrop for spring photos.  Plus it smelled really nice.  I just had to be mindful of the bees flitting around.

This week has ended with my mood being inspired by the 1920s.  I re-watched Midnight in Paris so I could see Tom Hiddleston as F. Scott Fitzgerald.  That film is just so incredible and I can really relate to the protagonists desire to be transported to the past.  Between that and the adverts I keep seeing for The Great Gatsby I've been going back a couple decades more than I normally do.

I was inspired and made two flapper-esque headbands.  I am absolutely going to dress up and go see Gatsby, even if no one else will dress up with me!  Though it would be preferable to have a few dapper people with.  I do love the twenties but only really have a few accessories from that time period including a hat and three handbags.  It would be really swell to find some pieces that if not actually that old, at least hold resemblance to that style of dress.

1-4. Last Sunday's outfit.

5-6. First time taking photos on train tracks.
7. Hats from another lady at church!
8. Hello, handsome...

9. I love Tom Hiddleston's curly hair!
10-11. Impossible Astronaut Day!
12. Reading lots of Tom or Benedict fanfiction.

13. I'm sensing a theme here...
14. Roller set and my grandma Charlotte's shirt.
15. Doctor Who + Sherlock = amazing fandom mashup.
16. These ladies are so inspiring!

17. The amazing Ella Fitzgerald.
18. Austen mood.
19. I love the Fitzgeralds in Midnight in Paris.
20. Getting excited for The Great Gatsby!

21-22. 1920s fever hit and I made two headbands inspired by Midnight in Paris/Gatsby.
23-24. Yesterday's nautical/patriotic themed outfit.

25-26. Gorgeous cherry blossom tree where I took outfit photos.
27. And another beautiful flowering tree.
28. I love this tree as a backdrop!

29. I can't wait to post these on the blog.
30. Black and white.

Inspiration has also struck in another way, though still keeping the roaring twenties in mind.  I think this spring/summer I'd really like to try to throw some themed picnics/afternoon parties.  I'm the only vintage lover/dresser amongst my mates but I think they'd still enjoy it.  I would do different things like the 20s and have food and beverages that were all the rage during that time.  Play music from that era.  Maybe even find some fun little games that were popular then.  The same for the 40s or other times like that.  We could even have an impromptu photoshoot or something!

So we will see...I really hope to bring that idea to fruition in the future.  What's been inspiring you lately?

In Which I Wear 3 Different Kinds of Flowers

I don't know how the weather for you has been, but here it's been rather dreary all week.  On and off rain and thunderstorms.  Lots of wind!  It's good to look back at these photos when it was nicer.  I know the April showers won't last and then I'll be whinging about it being too hot.

I have a serious addiction to these shoes, if you can't tell.  They are now my go-to pair.  I just love them so much.  Oh thrifting, it's like treasure hunting.  It's swell all the goodies one can find there.

I really love this handbag that I got at a yard sale on my birthday.  I would use it all the time if it only had pockets inside.  Something for some sort of organization.

I got to see my dad this week.  He took my little brother and I out for some pizza and ice cream.  He took Norma Jean (my vintage bicycle I got in Maine) home with him to try to fix her up.  Her chain is a bit rusty and the air tubes inside the tires need replacing or something.  I hope he can get her up and running.  I'd love to get her white wall tires one day.  She also needs a basket!

 Outfit Details:
top, vintage skirt, vintage shoes, vintage hat, belt {thrifted}
vintage handbag {yard sale}
backseam stockings {eBay}
vintage jewellery {excluding ring, belonged to Grandma Charlotte}

The cameo bracelet actually belonged to my great-grandma Henrietta, according to my father.  I think that's pretty neat. I never met her nor do I even know what she looked like.  We don't have many photos from my dad's side of the family.  That makes me all the more grateful and lucky that we have all the ones we do from my mum's.

Any big plans for the weekend?

Candy Coloured Stripes

The week is underway and it's not proving to be that good of one for me.  Sunday night I slept terribly (which could have had something to do with testing out foam rollers) and woke up with a horrible headache.  I've had a headache every day for the past couple months but same days are worse than others and yesterday was most certainly one.

On top of that, and the constant back pain, now I've got tooth pain.  My dad graciously paid for me to go to the dentist yesterday and it turns out my wisdom teeth need to come out and they're the source for my pain.  Unfortunately since I don't have insurance right now, I can't afford to get them pulled which is very expensive since they're impacted.

Today I had a doctor's appointment for my continued back pain plus a few other concerns.  Not much I can do for my back right now without exercise.  She suggested trying to do some at home stretches and heat to help with my back.  The good news was that she was able to write me a prescription to help with my teeth for now until I can get them pulled.

Since I was out I stopped at the mall to go to Sears.  I've had a gift card for there for well over a year.  I thought I might be able to find something there to cheer me up.  And I did!  I got a really cute pair of vintage inspired heels.  They were on sale for $24.99 but then rang up as $9.99!  Score!  It left me with a balance so I could still go back and get something else in the future.

Outfit Details:
vintage dress, vintage hat, handbag, belt {thrifted}
vintage jewellery {belonged to my grandma Charlotte}
wedges {eBay}

It's been and is going to continue to be a rather dreary week.  The weather has been bleak with on and off rain showers and they're calling for this all week.  Suffice to say, I've not been able to take outfit photos so I've been having a lazy time with my wardrobe.

Do you fall into laziness when they weather isn't nice?
