My Week According to Instagram

This week has been a hot one for sure.  Thankfully my mum carried down my two window AC units and put them in for me.  Or else I would be completely wilted.

It's so hard to believe that in one week, even less than one week, WWII Weekend will finally be here.  In case you haven't noticed by the amount I've talked about this- I'm really excited!  My outfits are all planned out all the way down to the accessories and now all I need to do is play the waiting game until Friday.

1-2. Last Sunday's outfit.
3-4. Photoshoot after church.

5. First time shooting a rifle. 75 yards and a bulls-eye, not too bad...

8. My great-uncle, Adrien 'Bud' Hilmer Knowlton, WWII.

9. My patriotic outfit for Memorial Day.
10. And the details of said outfit.

21. Shared this outfit post via Instagram.
22. Thursday's outfit, apricot wiggle dress.
23. My attempt at re-creating Rita's hair.
24. UK Being Human v US Being Human, UK wins for sure.

25. Vintage nurse's uniform.
26. Vintage green and white one piece swim suit, bullet bra built in!
27. Boho-chic for Friday's outfit.
28. Shared this post on Instagram.

29. Had a dream of Jay Baruchel as a sailor. That's a good dream.
30. Happy Birthday, Marilyn! (1 June 1926)
31. Saturday's feathery outfit.
32. Rita hair turned out better the second time around.

33. The pretty roses in my garden.
34. Since I can't be at Comic Con right now, watching Fanboys will have to do.

Another reason I'm excited for next weekend, besides the obvious, is that my cousin Kathy and her husband Mark are coming down for a wee visit.  And when I say wee, I mean wee.  They are arriving Friday afternoon, going to WWII Saturday, and then heading back to Maine Sunday.  Talk about quite a ride for just a short period of time!  Either way, I'm happy to see her again.

Apparently my sleeping mind is as excited as my waking conscious for WWII Weekend, because Friday night I had a dream about Jay Baruchel in a sailor uniform.  He did play one briefly in Night at the Museum 2: Battle at the Smithsonian so that's where the image came from.  But why it sprung into my unconscious mind, I don't know.  It's certainly got me on a Jay kick though.  I had to watch Fanboys because I'm bummed about missing Comic Con in Philly (Norman Reedus is there!) and then I watched Tropic Thunder.  Jay is just so adorkable.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!

My Week According to Instagram

Yesterday I went to see my 6 year old nephew play t-ball.  It was so cute to see all the wee ones running about.  But it was also freezing!  It was about 50 degrees, partly cloudy, and really windy.  I felt bad for all the kiddies too because they weren't huddled up like we were.

1-2. Sunday's outfit inspired by the Titanic anniversary.
3. A wee Titanic memorial I have set up in my flat.
4. Tried a new location for outfit photos.

5. A lovely shot of my new (to me) hat.
6. A gorgeous shot of Titanic at the docks in Southampton.
7. The result of sleeping with foam rollers in my hair.
8. A horrific act near my brother's home. Such a sickening tragedy.

9. Another beautiful shot of the ship from a blog post I did for the anniversary.
10. The gorgeous Ann-Margret.
11. Shared this post via Instagram.
12. Super curly hair thanks to hot rollers and shorter layers.

13. Lovely vintage style shoes from Sears.
14. David Tennant. I cannot wait for the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who.
15. Benedict Cumberbatch AND Tom Hiddleston together? Thank you War Horse.
16.

17. Grandma Ruth and her brother Adrien, Wintrhop High, Maine 1937.
18. Prince Charming from Once Upon a Time in Thor? What a surprise.
19. Bits of my coffee table, a repurposed old trunk.
20. A photo from the top issue of Life, about camisoles.

21. Shared this post on Instagram.
22. Liza Minnelli was on Smash! Makes me think of when I saw her sing.
23. Lily Collins looking divine in a 1960s mod inspired look. I'm jealous of that cape!
24. Is it June yet so I can go to WWII Weekend?

This week started off rather busy with visits to the doctor and dentists.  I did have some nice visits with family on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday.  Wednesday I helped my mum take her three dogs to Blue Marsh Lake for walk about and so they could go swimming in the water.  It was the first time I got to see the new puppy Willow swimming.  She is just the prettiest little golden retriever.

I've really been getting into crocheting since I learned a few basics at my library's crochet club.  I've already made one scarf and am starting on a second.  I know you're questioning why I'm making scarves in spring.  Well, it's a head start on Christmas presents of course!  Plus it's the only thing I know how to make right now.  I have a wee book that teaches some other things and of course the huge stack of patterns I got for free.  So I need to sit down and have a gander at what I can learn to make next.

Hope you all had/are having a great weekend!

My Week According to Instagram

This past week we had some really gorgeous (albeit hot) weather.  I wasn't quite prepared for it being that hot this soon.  A couple days it got into the 80s and that made for some very warm photo taking.  But it is so nice to have it be spring at last.

It was really pleasant to be able to take photos several days in a row this week.  I'm getting behind again on my outfit posts so I need to keep up on them.

1-4. Last Sunday's outfit.

5-6. It was Lucy inspired.
7. Holding a bottle of Vitameatavegemin.

21. This is so accurate, at least for me.
22. I cut my hair again! Took around 4-5" off it Tuesday night.
23-24. Wednesday's warm weather outfit. So simple but I love it.

25. Went out to take outfit photos.
26. My garden is finally in bloom.
27. Watched The Hobbit again. Love this film.

29. I've been bitten by the Sherlock bug and am now addicted.
30. Loved this cute Lord of the Rings cartoon.

33. Grandma Ruth with some kittens in the 1930s.
34. New (to me) hat! I am in love.
35. The hat's new home upon an old radio.
36. I have been all-consumed by a Benedict Cumberbatch obsession, thanks to Sherlock.

37. Some finishing touches to the antique radio.
38. Re-decorated my antique side table.
39-40. Sherlock, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, and a Shakespeare quote.

 41. Pinup Barbie.
42. Benedict again. I can't help it...
43. Dear Willow a few months back. She's even bigger now.
44. Two gorgeous vintage hats I was given by a sweet lady at church.

This week I (finally) watched Sherlock.  I've been meaning to for quite some time and at last got the first series from the library.  It was love at first sight.  Oh Moffat...  Benedict Cumberbatch is the perfect Sherlock Holmes.  He portrays the witty, and sometimes socially inept, detective flawlessly.  And the always adorable Martin Freeman plays Dr. John Watson with such charm.

Yesterday was my nephew's birthday party.  He turned 6 on Friday.  It's hard to believe he's that old already!  I went over to my brother's house and had some good food and hung out with them and a lot of my sister-in-law's family.

Today has been the usual Sunday routine.  I go to church in the morning with Mum and then head back to her house.  We make dinner and dessert together and then play games.

Do you have any weekend rituals that you do?

Of Birdcage Veils and Navy Blue

We now bring you your regularly scheduled blog post.  I've been pretty much MIA last week except for the usual Instagram post, which just so happened to be my 100th post!  I think I'd like to do some sort of giveaway to celebrate this milestone.  I am also a few followers away on Instagram to reaching 1000!  It's so exciting.  So in honour of that I'll probably post a giveaway for you all here and one for my Instagram followers.

I know I've said this a few times recently, but this is one of my new favourite outfits.  I think this dress may be a contender for World War II Weekend in June.  I am going to have a very hard time narrowing my choices down.  This was the first time that I wore this navy straw hat with the birdcage veil.  I've had it for awhile but it's just been a decoration in my flat until now.  I like to keep my hats displayed all over so that I may enjoy them when not wearing them.

Monday's are when I volunteer at my library in the morning.  It consists of lots of shelving and putting things away in alphabetical order.  I love alphabetical order.  Plus all the ladies that work at the library are so nice and I enjoy spending time with them.  I feel at home surrounded by books.

After the library, I went out and took outfit photos at my usual location of Conrad Weiser Homestead (not this outfit, taken at my mum's house).  I can't believe how gorgeous it was and still is today.  It got all the way up to 75 and the next few days are going to be just as nice.  Wednesday they are calling for it to be in the low 80s.  I think spring is finally here to stay.  I just wish the temperatures would be a bit more transitive.

Today would have been my grandma Ruth's 92nd birthday if she was still alive.  She passed away back in April of 2008 and was the last of my living grandparents.  She was a very beautiful, talented woman.  An incredible pianist, artist, and writer.  I miss her and my other grandma Charlotte so much.  I never knew either of my grandfather's as they were both gone before I was born.

Outfit Details:
vintage dress, vintage hat, vintage gloves, belt {thrifted}
vintage handbag {gift}
wedge sandals {payless}

I'm sure I've said this before, but there's just something about the warmth and sunshine that puts a bounce in my step and spreads happiness throughout.  Hopefully the coming warmer temperatures will lift my spirits and keep them up.

My Week According to Instagram

Yesterday it snowed.  So much for spring, huh?  Hopefully that was winter's last ditch effort and it will finally start admitting defeat.  It's so hard to believe that a week ago it was in the 50s and sunny and now it's back to snow.  Oh ridiculous weather.

This week has not been my best.  I've had a horrible migraine since last Sunday that will not go away.  No matter any different medicine I try, it still stays strong.  Worse, the tension is all across my head, through my neck, and even down to my shoulders.  On top of it all, halfway through the week my back decided to act up and I can't move without pain.  I have no idea what happened to it, but I can barely bend forward, that's how stiff it is.  Even with taking a muscle relaxer I'm still super tense.

1. Nostalgia time with Daria.
2-4. The outfit I wore last Sunday.  May I say I'm in love with it?

5. Homemade peach cobbler.
6. Last week's Instagram post.
7-8. What I wore on Monday.

9. Another outfit I absolutely love!
10. These shoes...I can't even...
11. Two of my grandmother's brooches.
12. Chocolate latte with whip cream and chocolate drizzle.

13-14. Shared this post on Instagram.
15. This week's Style Crush was Zooey Deschanel.
16. Smudger hanging out and looking cute.

17. My maternal grandmother, Ruth in the 40s.
18. My maternal great-grandfather, Norman in 1918.
19-20. Birthday outfit post went up.

21. St. Patrick's Day nails!  Mint green with a kelly green shamrock!
22. Felt like Lucille Ball or a factory girl.
23. Such a fabulous film.  And Ewan McGregor doesn't hurt...
24. I finally am all caught up on Glee thanks to a 6 episode marathon.

25. A stack of lovely vintage movie magazines from 1947-48!
26. Choices, choices.  My Irish jewelry options.
27. Mmm, yes...
28. Smudger says Happy St. Patrick's Day! (photo from last year)

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  What are your plans?  I know it's a party day for those Irish and non and a lot of people will be drinking, even though it's a Sunday.  Myself, even though I am Irish, am not a big drinker.  Plus I don't want to give my head an excuse to hurt anymore than it already does.

But as per my St. Patty's Day tradition, I shall be watching The Boondock Saints.  If you haven't seen it yet...where have you been?  I'll also be watching the sequel, All Saints Day.  I don't care if some people think it's bad.  Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery can do no wrong.  Plus those two gorgeous men with Irish accents.  Swoon-worthy.
