In Which the Wind Ruins My Hair

This past weekend had incredible weather.  It was in the 50s for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  Now today of course to make up for that, it is dreary and rainy.  Oh well.  At least it was a taste of what's to come with spring on its way.

I know I said on the last outfit post that that was one of my favourite outfits.  Well, this is certainly another one.  This skirt has always been a love of mine, but it's the culmination of all the components.  The shoes, (thrifted vintage Salvatore Ferragamo!) have always quickly found a way to my heart.

I'm finally caught up on series three of Downton Abbey.  It only took me until now and renting it from the library.  I missed watching it every Sunday because Once Upon a Time and The Walking Dead are a higher priority for me.  I really love this show and immersing myself into a different time.  And it's always so interesting to see the contrast between the upstairs and downstairs.

I've had this vintage navy velvet hat for quite some time but never wore it.  Well now the poor hat finally had it's time out in the world.  I always ending wearing the same few hats over and over.  There's nothing wrong with that, but I'd like to start wearing the others and also continue to ad to my collection.

Outfit Details:
vintage sweater, vintage brooch {grandmother's}
vintage shoes, vintage hat, vintage skirt, belt {thrifted}
tights {target}
cameo bracelet {handmade}

My hair was looking much nicer this day when I left the house.  If you couldn't tell from my skirt billowing about, it was rather windy when I took the photos.  My poor hair went from pretty and curly to falling and fluffy.  This happens though.  I still love the whole look even with the crazy hair.

My Week According to Instagram

Normally most of the time I usually want to jump back in time into the 1940s.  But as of late, I've been a bit more inclined to indulge a bit farther.  I've just finished reading Austenland by Shannon Hale and am nearly done with Midnight in Austenland.  I've always been a big Austen fan, so reading these stories about women who take a holiday in England and immerse themselves in the world of Austen.  They wear the clothing (down to the chemise, bloomers, and corset), (try) to speak the language, and flirt with gorgeous male actors dressed in breeches that are there as a romantic diversion.  I know I wouldn't mind a little Mr. Darcy, Colonel Brandon, or Mr. Knightley fantasy.  How about you ladies?

13. DOCTOR WHO YAHTZEE!!!
14. So true...

I've also felt a recent attachment towards the Downton Abbey era also.  I love the 1940s-1950s, but there's something even more glamorous about the years preceding those.  Women had to change their clothing multiple times of the day.  Everyone dressed for dinner.  I just love watching Downton and pretending that I could be one of the Ladies Crawley.  I must admit that I'm a few episodes behind, so no spoilers!

What is your normal era that you wish you could transport back to?  Do you have any other time periods you'd like to visit if you could?

2013 SAG Awards- Men's Edition

What is a woman's best accessory besides a glitzy clutch and a great mani?  That's right...A man.  Whether they were single or came with dates...

Here are the men that caught my eye at the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Like yesterday, we will go in alphabetical order.

Allen Leech with his Downton Abbey co-stars: Phyllis Logan, Michelle Dockery, Amy Nuttall, and Sophie McShera.
Downton is one of my favourite programs so I had to include the only man that attended.  Plus Allen looked so charming in his tuxedo.  Oh Branson...

 Ben Affleck.
Ben and Jen are one of my favourite couples.  They seem so down to earth and family oriented.  Ben looked so handsome in his black suit and I do enjoy a man with some scruff.

Bradley Cooper in Tom Ford.
A clean shaven Bradley looked very dapper in his navy and black tux.  It really made those gorgeous baby blues pop.

Cory Monteith in Calvin Klein.
I'm sure this will be one of those love/hate looks but I thought Cory looked quite nice in this grey tux.  It made him stand out among the sea of black and navy looks.

Darren Criss in Calvin Klein.
Darren looked gorgeous in his black suit.  I'm glad he didn't slick his hair down too much like he has to on Glee.  I like his natural wave.

 Eddie Redmayne in Hugo Boss.
Eddie looked chocolatey delicious in his brown velvet suit.  He took a risk that paid off.  Just check out the smoldering look on his face.  It's enough to make a girl blush.  Gorgeous!

Hugh Jackman in Prada.
Hugh is one of those who looks handsome in anything he wears.  And this tux can certainly be added to the list.

John Krasinski in Calvin Klein.
John went on the casual side, but I thought he still looked so handsome in his suit.  It's tailored to perfection for him and a girl can't argue about that.

 Justin Timberlake in Tom Ford.
Was it a bit too casual for the red carpet?  Perhaps, but I still love this checked suit that Justin wore.

Liev Schreiber in Calvin Klein, with Naomi Watts.
Liev holds his own standing next to his lovely leading lady.  He looked very handsome, and again, I love a man with a bit of scruff.  I just wish he would have taken off the shades.

Matthew Morrison in a Dior Homme tux.
I loved Matthew's tux from the first moment I saw it.  It fits him fantastically and his bow tie is so cool.

My top five looks for these gorgeous gents are Ben Affleck, Eddie Redmayne, Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, and Matthew Morrison.  It was difficult to choose because they all were rather dapper.

Whether they were in tuxedos or suits, these men knew how to look devastatingly handsome.  Who were your favourite men on the red carpet?

My Week According to Instagram

Nothing too exciting happened the first several days of the week.  I worked Monday through Thursday so those days didn't consist of much.  Friday I had off and spent a lovely day with my mum.

We spent the day thrifting at a few different shops.  I didn't get my usual load of bounty, but I did get a few nice pieces.  The most exciting thing is a stunning vintage 1940s coat that my mum got me for Christmas.  She wasn't going to show me at first, but she wanted to make sure it fit.  I can't wait to get it!  It's so lovely!

We had lunch at the little diner in my town that we also wanted to check out.  They had the cutest Victorian era reproduction Coca-Cola signs hanging around.  The food was so delicious too.

We ended up having to go grocery shopping then.  Crazy!  I really had to go no matter what, but it was still crazy.  We are supposed to be getting a really bad storm here in the next few days so people were going into survivor mode.  I've heard insane reports about how generators are sold out everywhere and Walmart no longer has any water!  I guess they're expecting it to be really bad.  It's rather scary...  Hopefully it won't be quite as bad as they are saying it to be.

26. Last Sunday's thrifting outfit.
27. Hello, Hook!  Another reason to love Once Upon a Time.

I'm excited to have off tomorrow.  It's going to be horrible out, so it's the perfect day to lay on the couch and try to finish watching my list of Halloween movies with a cup of hot mint chocolate.  Hopefully the power stays on so I can achieve that.  And also hopefully it won't be so terrible tonight at work that they make me stay the night.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!

My Week According to Instagram

I'm still getting over being sick.  It's going on two weeks now.  Most definitely no fun.  They did an x-ray on Friday to rule out pneumonia, so hopefully I'll know something at the beginning of the week.

Yesterday was a bit exhausting.  I overdid it by cutting Mum's hair and taking photos.  I don't feel too bad as long as I pace myself.  But anytime I exert a bit too much energy, I just am completely wiped out.  That's what makes working so difficult since I'm constantly on my feet, running around.

Today was fun.  I got an abrupt call from my mum asking me to go to a flea market with her, my step-dad, nephew, and sister-in-law.  I found some amazingly unbelievable finds.  I knew there would be produce and used items but I wasn't expecting to find the great vintage items I did.  I got 12 pairs of vintage back seam stockings, an old mixer from the 1950's or so (I need to research it), an old WWII devotional book for the soldiers, and a cameo ring.

Afterwards, we had luncheon at a cute diner.  Then we went to the Humane Society Thrift Shop because my nephew needed a tie-dye shirt for school for tomorrow.  He didn't have any luck, but I made out like a bandit!  I got a blue velvet vintage hat with lovely red lace lining, a detachable fur collar, a tapestry handbag, two tapestry pieces of luggage, a looking glass that says "I didn't want to go out but my hair looked too good to stay home", and a vintage bullet bra.

Warning: A lot of the following photos are Downton Abbey themed.  I'm currently reading The World of Downton Abbey by Jessica Fellowes.  If you're a fan of the show, I highly suggest giving it a look.  It's got such stunning photography from the series as well of old images of actual people from that time.  Not only does it give insight to how things are on the show, but it also gives details of how life was then.  It's really all so fascinating.

After I got home from the flea market and thrifting, I really needed to rest.  I exerted too much energy for still recovering from the infection.  I wouldn't trade it for the world though.  It was so much craic to spend time with my family and I love thrifting!  I rested and perused the internet for a bit and then baked some cute pumpkin shaped cookies to take work tomorrow.  I'll show you in next Sunday's post.  How was your weekend?

My Week According to Instagram

Wow, time flies...  So this past week was the Emmy's.  I didn't get to watch it since I had to work, but that didn't stop me from admiring the fashion!  There were some really stunning dresses there, below I document some of my favourites.

It was a bit of another tough week.  Yesterday was a week since we had to put Harley down.  Then I found out my cat, Midnight, has cancer.  The 26th was the 21st anniversary of my grandmother passing.  I went to visit her on Friday when I had off which was very emotional, but I felt like I needed to do that.

I do have some things to look forward to this coming week.  I'm taking a trip to NYC tomorrow.  Then, this weekend I have some family coming down from Maine for a visit.  We will be going to the Renaissance Faire around here.  It's really swell.  Sort of raunchy, lude humor, but still a blast.
