Sears and Stripes

As you may remember, this was my Easter outfit.  That should give you all a timeline for where I am with my backlogged photos.  I was doing well with catching up to them in the winter months, but now that it's warmer and I'm taking a lot more photos, I'm getting behind again.

If you can't tell from the grey clouds, it was threatening to rain at any moment.  Therefore, we did an impromptu photoshoot outside of the church parking lot.  So please excuse the random houses in the background.  We managed to beat the weather, excepting a few rain drops here and there.

I was so excited that 1) I figured out what this random object that belonged to my Grandma Charlotte was and 2) That I finally got to use it.  If you're wondering, I'm talking about the glove clip that is attached to my handbag.  I discovered it amongst her jewellery and couldn't figure it out.  Then whilst browsing on eBay I came upon one and the light bulb went off.

handbag, jewellery {gifts}
backseam stockings {eBay}

I am in love with this vintage Sears, Roebuck, and Co. dress.  It was love at first sight when my eyes came upon it at the thrift shop.  I knew I had to have it.  And it fits like a glove.  This dress is going to get many, many wears from me.  This is already my second time wearing this dress on the blog.

Do you have any pieces of clothing that you've fallen in love with immediately?

Ann-Margret Anyone?

The moment I first laid eyes on this dress my mind immediately went to Joan from Mad Men and Ann-Margret.  I thought automatically of a 1960s bombshell.

It's only fitting that I broke out my Grandma Charlotte's sunglasses from that era also.  And why not wear my hair up like Joan and throw on some gloves?

The sweet bow detail on the shoes, though not vintage, I thought was a perfect touch for the look.

I really had fun in this outfit even though I'm more of a 1940s/1950s girl.  I do appreciate a lot of the style from the early-mid 60s but then past that I stop caring for it as much.  Most of the styles on Mad Men currently?  No thank you, I'll pass.

It's hard to think of the 60s when my mind is focused on the 20s and The Great Gatsby.  I definitely want to start integrating more of that style into my wardrobe.

My Week According to Instagram

Happy Easter one and all!  I hope you are having a wonderful time celebrating this very special day.  I will be attending church, as usual, with my mum.  Afterwards my brother, his wife, and son will come over for Easter dinner at my mum's house.  I'm glad we are able to spend time together.

Hopefully by tonight, I can continue to remain spoiler-free in regards to The Walking Dead after last week's fiasco.  There's nothing worse than spoilers.

In more cheerful news, Bomb Girls and Doctor Who is back!!!  Plus Mad Men in one week!  Hopefully these shows will fill the hole that The Walking Dead will leave.  But sadness aside, can we just take a moment and talk about how amazing the return of Bomb Girls and Doctor Who was?  I almost forgot how much I enjoyed those programs until they came back on.  Oh Doctor...

It's slowly starting to warm up again.  This weekend's weather has been nice, in the 50s, though they are calling for rain this afternoon.  I know I've said this before, but I can't wait for the warmth to come and stay.  Friday I got to wear my pretty blue 1960s frock.  I had to go in that direction after watching a season and a half of Mad Men.  But I'm ready and rearing to go for next week's premiere.

Yesterday Mum and I helped out at our church's Easter egg hunt.  My nephew came along and then we took him to another egg hunt.  The lucky lad!  I wish they had egg hunts for adults.  I miss the rush and thrill of trying to grab those eggs.  Plus some free candy is always nice.  Though they did hand out chocolate bunnies to both adults and children at the second egg hunt.  Yum.

What are your Easter plans?  I hope you have a happy and joyous day no matter what it is!  Happy Easter!

Style Crush: Spencer Reid

It's time for the weekly Style Crush!  This week I'm featuring the adorable, super smart, socially awkward Dr. Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds, played by Matthew Gray Gubler.

I remember the first time I saw Spencer back in 2007.  I was flipping through the channels and saw this really cute guy sneaking around a house.  I stopped to see what it was.  It ended up being the episode where Reid was kidnapped by Tobias Hankle.  I was hooked ever since.  And have had a major crush on Spencer Reid ever since.

I love this geek chic style, as I like to call it that Spencer has.  He's definitely got a dreamy style.  I love all of his cardigans and sweater vests.  It might not work on some people, but it totally works on him.  And he certainly pulls off horn-rimmed glasses, as we saw in season one.

His style has certainly evolved from the beginning of the show, but still kept to his character.  His hair has also had many changes throughout the progress of the show.  My least favourite of his hair was season one, from then on I have had no complaints.  When he first cut his hair short I was shocked and swore I wouldn't like it.  Then I fell absolutely in love with it.  Now that his hair is growing out some on the current season, I'm really starting to miss the "boy band" hair.

I was very much behind on the show by 6 or so episodes.  I finally caught up a few weeks ago.  Each time I go for a period without the show, I forget how much I love it.  Then I watch it and think how I could ever go that long without watching the new episodes.  I feel so bad for Reid this season.  The poor guy just can't catch a break.  Though I most certainly will be happy to volunteer to be his girlfriend.  If only he weren't a fictional character...

Another thing that must be mentioned about Spencer is how sexy his intelligence is.  I love that he has a random fact about pretty much anything.  Smart is sexy.  I love a man that dresses well, is smart, and loves to read books.  Spencer is definitely a dream man for me.  I know Derek Morgan is a favourite among the ladies, and he is handsome, but for me it will always be Dr. Spencer Reid.

Of Shoes and Hats

Wow, can you believe that it is March already?  I nearly wrote May, wishful thinking I suppose.  But I will most definitely take March.  I keep seeing photos on Instagram of people that live in California or Australia where it's warmer and it makes me long for the shedding of layers.  I am constantly seeing photos of all these lovely ladies in their sweet summer dresses or even skirts with no stockings.

This cardigan my mum got me for Christmas, and though it's not real vintage, I love the classic look to it.  I don't have that many lace pieces in my wardrobe and this was a nice addition.  Especially since it's a lace that I can wear during the colder months.  I've worn this blouse and cardigan combination many times, probably because purple and green are my favourite colours.  I am also wearing this knit skirt here again because it's just so darn comfortable and I love the way it conforms to my curves.

I had the bright idea to wear these peep-toe wedges that I just bought off of eBay.  Not exactly the smartest idea I had.  Besides having very cold, wet toes, I also got the new shoes completely covered in mud.  It was cold enough out to still have snow on the ground but warm enough that it had started to melt.  That resulted in very, very mushy ground.  Not the easiest thing to run around taking photos in.  I had to curl my toes up in the shoes as I walked to keep the mud from squishing into my shoes.

Here are the elusive muck shoes.  I adore them and cannot wait until I can wear them again.  They're not vintage but they still have that look to them, and that's good enough for me.  Plus there is just something about wedges that I like.  I've got a few pairs of wedges so it's nice to add these to the family.

I must admit, I do have a bit of a shoe addiction.  But truly, that's not too strange for a woman.  Shoes are definitely starting to take over my closet though.  I think they must multiply when I'm not looking.  I haven't bought any too recently except a pair of vintage Ferragamos and this beautiful floral t-strap peep-toe pair that I'm longing to wear.  Those will probably be the first I strap to my feet when weather permits.  T-straps are just so sexy to me.

I can't believe I haven't worn this fur hat more yet.  It's perfect to keep my head warm in the cold and it was quite a steal, price-wise.  I really must work it into my wardrobe a couple times in the next month or so.  The poor thing isn't getting it's fun out in the world and is just hanging on my wall with some other vintage hat friends.  I seem to wear the same few hats in rotation and don't share the fun with others.  Some hats I have are more for display.  One is very fragile and the netting is in very bad shape.  The other is a gorgeous 1920s turban type hat that I just love but it's rather snug on my head.  I would most definitely wear it though if I had a 1920s outfit to wear it with.  I'm so glad I wrote this, because as I just did, inspiration struck.  I now know that I do have a flapper-esque dress that I can wear with the turban and am longing for warm weather even more so now.

necklace, bracelet {Etsy}

This was a really good photo shoot for me.  I feel it turned out really well and I hope you all feel that way as well.  I'm getting better at taking my own photo.  Unfortunately, now I'm going to have to get used to a whole new camera setup.  Still, this new camera should take better photos.  Even though the camera is around 10 years old, my dad said he bought it for around $1,000 new back then.  So we shall see.
